He was hiding in the weeds. It was then you saw his eyes. He understood. And he was trembling. An overwhelming need to protect him washed over me. Flashlight beams waved throughout the woods, signaling the sooner than later arrival of the Wardens. Our eyes caught. Opening the door a little wider I signaled for him to come inside. Relief flashed in his eyes and he darted out of his hiding place and through my open door. Throwing one more glance at the waving lights, I shut the door and switched the deadbolt.
"OK, you need to hide." I said matter of factly. Taking his hand, I tugged him into the kitchen. "There's a trapdoor in the fridge. Go!

On the Way Out of Town
A stop light on the way out of town.
That's how I met him.
That's why I stayed.
He's why I died.
On the way out of town, at a red light, I rolled down my window and lit a cigarette. It was late, almost morning. Smoke rolled off my tongue. Sticking my fingers out the window, I watched the ashes fall. A black SUV pulled up beside me, its window rolled down. The driver was really hard to see. It was almost as if he was cloaked in the darkness or something. I shook my head. This red light seemed to last forever. I sighed and took another drag.
Or at least I tried.
Someone had plucked my cigarette out of my hand. I looked at the car
Closing her eyes, she laid her pink head back into my palms. Watching a friend die is never easy, but I hold back my tears. Setting her head gently, I stood. My enemys ,the sound nin, stood around me. I wouldn't be able to handle them all alone but I would drag down a few with me anyway.
Leaping at the nearest ninja, I slashed at his chest. My kunai slipped easily through is flesh. As his body fell, I twisted and blocked some flying shuriken. Death was in my eyes, fear in theirs. Wild anger and adrenaline coursed though my body as I lunged forward again. Pulling out five kunai, I lodged them all into the heads of the closest. Letting
My mind was scrambled. Somebody screamed again. Terror coursed through my body. Another scream. This time a woman. The screaming stopped abruptly, and a gurgling sound followed. A growl. Throwing my head from side to side I searched for a way out. 'If I can make it to that,' I thought, 'I might just get away!"
Willing my legs to move faster I charged forward, to the alley. It was dark. I couldn't see my feet. Behind me was silent. In my mind I imagined what has just happened. I shuddered. Just then, something grabbed my leg. It was painful, like claws digging into my calf. Letting out a wild call for help, I was dragged into another alley,
My voice echoed, although the cave was small.
"Hello?" I called, again. Fear crept into my voice. Fear for my brother and fear the we were trapped in here. We were on an adventure, Christopher and I. I wonder if he found the sword yet. Christopher was a thirteen year old genius. Sort of like Professor X from that movie, The X-Men. Yeah, a lot like Professor X. And me? I was like Mystique, that is, before she turned evil and went with Magneto. But that's a different story.
Christopher is a telepath. And a powerful one at that. I'm just part cat. I don't have human ears, but more of a cats ears. And a tail. With extendable claws. But that's
